Nice little store with a range of used vinyl from 60s-80s. Also cassettes - but unfortunately those didn’t seem to be Japanese
Nice record store with good vibe!
Great selection/curation and clean!
It was a really fun record store.
I'm a recent vinyl record novice. I wanted to broaden my musical horizons, but couldn't find anything that appealed to me at other record stores, so I ended up at akaru records. Looking at the records on the wall, I was impressed by the manager's musical taste, so I asked if he could help me choose a few records from a wide variety of genres, both old and new, and he gladly agreed. Now, in my home, akaru records in good condition are spinning around, creating wonderful music. It seemed like there was still plenty of quality music to be found in the store, so it was a cozy and charming record store that made me want to try my hand at record digging myself.

Yutaka was super helpful and welcoming when I visited the shop. He really knows his music and immediately understood the kind of genre I was looking for. Overall, such a great experience. Would recommend to visit!!
This store is very cool! Yutaka and Yusuke picked out some great records for me and as a gift. They also gave me advice on the selection. I highly recommend it!
Yutaka was a great help finding us some Japanese records ! They have an amazing shop in harajuku . Recommend highly and very friendly
Beautifully curated store with true gems. Yutaka helped me discover Japanese sounds I wouldn’t have found on my own. Loved it. Left with two records.
Incredible service. Yutaka was so helpful on my jazz journey and was a fellow musician so really knew his stuff. I previewed 2 vinyls and 2 cds he recommended and bought them all. Stop by when you are in town, you won’t regret it!

A pilgrimage and must visit for fans of the xx. Naka-San was very kind and helpful to find exclusives among the many available options. Fantastic IPA in the bar and, obviously, the music played was perfect. Had to use Shazam 5 times in an hour.
First off I don’t get the bad reviews of this place? The staff were nothing but super friendly and helpful, I actually went back a second day to spend more time there as it happened to be RSD. I purchased some records, a mug, slip mat covers. This will be my place to shop for records in Tokyo, plus the beer was amazing! The manager/owner and the girl at the cash/till were so lovely and even gave me a little gift when I left.
Amazing selection of electronic music and good prices! Found a couple grails here at an amazing price. The only downside would be that they don’t offer tax free purchases, but it’s all love from me regardless.
Awesome record shop. Unsuspecting, but when you get up there, a great selection of records, and in particular, great shoegaze, metal and rock. Must visit!
It’s been a while since I posted something interesting, and this post is something interesting. This is a great record store in the Harajuku District and If you want to discover indie music and have a drink (or two) while you’re discovering, this is a good place to do it. Oh man this is a good place to do some searching for some good independent music artists from all over, which was a first for me because that’s all there was….Indie music 🎶👍🏾. Enjoy and discover music you’ve overlooked!!
Indie record shop with a craft beer & coffee bar offering vinyl, tapes & CDs across diverse genres.

Found so much takanaka for great prices !
Great place where you can easily spend hours in the afternoon. The playlist is always amazing and the collections are super cool. I would keep an eye on not to increase the prices too much folks however. Keep up the good work!
Found everything I wanted for vinyls at this spot, really friendly staff who helped me look! Highly recommend!!
Small store, but deep stock. Impossible to leave without picking something up. Have scored some great deals here. Super friendly staff too.
No classical recordings.

Cool basement record store geared toward Jazz lovers. VERY SMALL SPACE down stairs with records wall to ceiling wherever they fit. Shop owner has a great collection. Highlight of our Tokyo trip.
one of the most unique and BEST record shops for jazz - all time. and forever!! absolute important!! this is pure jazz legacy! the highest recommendations EVER!
Maybe the other review caught Kenji san on a bad day? Today was my first time visiting and he was very sweet, helpful and I can't wait to go back. Amazing collection with nearly 45 years of history in Shibuya. Enjoyed my experience and enjoying the Charlie Parker record I scored today! He even let me take photos after I asked if I was allowed to.
Cool, small record store with an impressive selection. Must see for any jazz fans.
Store was no more than 25 square feet and it was extremely hard to browse. Owner forced his way through my fiancé's path so she left the store. He had piles of records upright on top of boxes full of records, little did I know there was some sort of system he had and he didn't mention it until I asked him to move his laptop from the top of a crate so I could continue browsing. He mumbled something to the effect of he didn't want my business and to go to Disk Union if I wanted Blue Notes. He did have many expensive first pressings on his tiny wall and he had fair prices on OJCs so two stars for that, but I didn't buy anything after he scolded me.

Absolutely! One of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Tokyo and Shinjuku because they have an entire room dedicated to just video game and anime music. I can spend literal hours just looking through the shelves for something to buy and since this particular location is close to Tower records in Shinjuku, you are able to go and buy a real CD player and then come to this location to find music to listen to! Love it
Variety of Kayokyoku/Showa music goods. EPs are as low as 280, 380, 480 JPY, all categorized alphabetically (in kana system order). This has been my go-to place every time I visit Tokyo. Bonus: They've got Japanese Showa idols bromides for sale (385 JPY per piece) too.
Somehow 80s citypop has been popular in Tokyo? So you may not find your goals here, but definitely worth exploring, especially under the shelf there is a 500yen- section! It burns the time but there are good stuff mixed in there. BTW the price is the same as you can find on Discog, basically you are saving yourself a shipping fee, depending on where you are from. Happy collecting!
Nice place but the sales is kind of rude to non Japanese. I think it maybe too many tourists in Japan. The shop is nice with a huge collections.
This place is just what I've been dreaming about. Disc Union has several locations but this one carries lots of Japanese LPs from the 80s. My favorites were all there. I held back and only purchased four but I'm going back tomorrow to buy more. Lots more.

Well stocked and has friendly helpful staff. Theres always great music playing here. I found many records on my last visit and the staff were helpful in having them delivered to my apartment by Sagawa in only 2 days! Check this store out for some real gems!💎
If you are an avid record collector, especially if you're into indie rock/alternative music, I highly recommend paying a visit to this Disk Union outlet. Every time I'm in Tokyo, I make it a point to stop at this particular Disk Union outlet. Over the years I've found some fantastic rare records at the Used Indie/Alternative music section located on one of the upper floors at reasonable prices. The selection of used records is simply astounding, and if you're lucky, you might find some rare CDs and cassettes among the shelves as well. In recent years (as of 2024), they've added a video game OST section on 1F, and a Japanese pop music section on B1F. If you're into local music, both these sections are well worth the visit, however the layouts and stores may change as the years go by, so do check their official website for updates before you visit. While there are many other Disk Union outlets (in Shinjuku alone!), this one stands out as my favourite of the lot. It may get a little cramped inside (what store in Tokyo isn't cramped, anyway?), and the crates tend to be overstuffed with records, making it rather tedious to dig through at times, but if you've got an hour to spare, please make it a point to come visit! You won't be disappointed.
Amazing and helpful staffs and I got my Sheena Ringo 2nd hand vinyl single that I've been looking for ages here and superb condition!
To keep in mind if you're a foreigner: The alarm rang at the moment a couple (Japanese) and I were exiting the store. A store employee ran to stop me (and didn't even bother to check them), threw all my purchased items to the floor and reviewed each one of them, only to later see that my bag didn't cause the alarm. He didn't even apologize.
I loved going here. There are different floors (in 2-3 different buildings on the same block) for different genres. You might have to take a short walk down the street to find what you want. Awesome selection, pretty good prices and sizable inexpensive bargain bins for 7-inch records. Very fun.

Japan is good at one thing - maintaining physical copies. If you want any records that are affordable, high quality, and well preserved, it’s worth stopping by. But to save your time, search and check whether the discs you are looking for is in stock on the diskunion website first.
Really solid collection ! Overall just great vibes and good prices 🕺
I could find what i want here with good price.
I came here to buy a cardboard shipper for an album I bought at a different disk union location 30 minutes before. The employee jammed the box into my bag with the other records and damaged them. When I pointed out that he had ruined the album I had just purchased he didn't seem to care.
Took a bit of time to find the new location, now on the 8th floor in the Kinokuniya book store. Worth the time to find it, but wish they could've stayed where they were. Great place to buy cds, though. They're the last game in town beyond Tower Records
Notable used CD & record reseller Disk Union's classical music hall, with 70,000+ organized copies.

It's a truly incredible record store. There's a huge selection of metal albums, from older and rarer ones to more recent ones. The staff was incredibly kind; they recommended me a fantastic Japanese death metal album. Thank you so much and congratulations! 🤘🏼🔥
Great shop located in a small apartament. The vinyl prices are fair even for the vintage ones. The staff is friendly. The selection is quite good and have a great variety of bands. It is definitely worth a visit!
A must visit for metal heads in Tokyo. I asked a member of the staff for Japanese brutal death metal recommendations and he was super helpful. Grabbed a couple cds and can't wait to listen.
Seemingly the only record store with current metal records for sale while still retaining a large collection of 80s/90s LPs secondhand in the whole of Tokyo? Maybe I just missed all similar stores, but I frequented many in the two weeks I was in Japan. Anyway, friendly staff and decent prices. Very broad Japanese focused collection. At the time of writing, the store has a (used) vinyl copy of Dismember's 'Like an Ever Flowing Stream' available for around 230€, which is pretty darn cool and should be an indication of the things you can find here.
Interesting store placed in interesting spot. You can get used rarities and merchs at affordable price here. Their store merchandise (totes, purse, bags etc) are interesting too.

This disk Union shop is small, but has a huge selection of different artists. The staff is very helpful. Although my Japanese is pretty much non-existent - I showed one of the employee the artist I was looking for on my phone and after a few seconds he showed me the shelf, where they had all their releases.
One of the coolest music stores in Japan that's also locally owned and not corporate.
Really cool little place. Staff were really helpful and friendly, and the girl at the checkout gave me a free demo CD, which I appreciated! I could've stayed all day listening to the music they were playing, but it's a very small shop. I found the band I wanted (The Star Club) but they only had a few CDs. They didn't have the band score I wanted, which was a shame, but no other shops did either, so it was OK. Overall I liked the shop. I noticed that the music was separated by sub-genre which I found confusing. I wish it was just alphabetical.
amazing browsing experience. such a highly organized place with very accurate section labels. even though the bins are PACKED, each vinyl also has the artist/release name on the top of the plastic sleeve, so it’s still easy to go through them. great selection of punk, hardcore, emo, powerviolence on the 7th floor.
It's an amazing shop. I looked around Tokyo for a good selection of punk/psychobilly and found this place. They even had the CD of the one Japanese psychobilly artist I've been looking for years. They didn't just have 1 but 2 of their CD's. I couldn't stop finding stuff I love there. The employee even had great suggestions of Japanese punk rock to take home to my friends in the US.

Great record store with tons of different music genres to browse from. I bought a handful of vinyls for a great price and in good condition too with no scratches on any of the vinyls. The staff were even kind enough to ask me if I wanted to check the inside before making my purchase and even guided me to the other Disk Unions in the area which had the genres of music I was looking for. Awesome place and one of my favourite record stores!
Great record shop. Found a couple from my "want" list They have another store with heaps of used vinyl about 5 mins walk away
Honestly been great find this brand of records I had my wish list almost fulfilled all I gotta tell everyone if you se egir record never hesitate to take I made that mistake with couple of ones
They have a map for disk union stores in the vicinity so you could just go to the one that caters your music preferences. I went to the Rock and Jazz ones.. and I found the records that I have been looking out for for a while.
Perfect shop although it's very tiny😂 Don't even bother to go other second hand shops for music. They have great collections, and even 100 yen shelves each floor! But they don't have a seperate collection for J-rock, it's under J-pop. That was kinda suprising.

I'm always a little nervous to visit small specialist record stores. Don't hesitate! It's a warm and friendly store. I didn't have enough time to look properly so see you again soon. Thank you !
Audio wax / vynl treasure can be found here! From original pressings to reissue : 7”, 12” and LP. Nice apparel as well. Not to be missed. Lastly, the team here is so kind! I look forward to returning.
It's a shop that every reggae head all over the world should try to visit. There are rows and rows of 7" single and albums from every era of reggae and dancehall. Prices are excellent, staff/owners are very friendly, and the selection is vast. Clearly, it's put together by people who truly love reggae music. I have to visit every time I come to Japan.
Reggae wax Mecca. Great establishment and I’m happy that places like this exist. Rastafari!

I highly recommend this store. The price is reasonable, the atmosphere is good, the owner is super nice. You can also choose music while drinking coffee! I am very happy to find what I want!
The shop owner was extremely friendly and helpful in making suggestions for records, and brewed us one of the best coffee’s I’ve ever had. 10/10 experience!!
Excellent selection of rare and offbeat finds in excellent condition and the ability to listen to anything before you buy. In addition, the owner is a gem. He also runs a small bar offering various alcohol-based or coffee-based choices. Loved this place!
This is one of the best record stores in Tokyo. The prices are very fair, the staff are kind, and the atmosphere is amazing. A digging trip in Tokyo is incomplete until you visit ECHO.
Great Shop with cool knowledgeable owner. Serious deep cuts and pressings at great value. A Must stop for crate digging crawl in Tokyo

Absolutely loved this store. Great selections, well curated, in good condition, and a fair prices. You can tell the owners really care about presentation and the shopping experience. Well wroth the trip.
insane hiphop selection from the 90s - 10/10 . Prices are fair too
A wide spread of different genres and artists all organized neatly! Loved what I found here!
Great music selection and a cool vibe. The staff didn’t speak any English, but he helped us with a question we had and was very friendly
Nice small store with a decent jazz section that features rarer ( and more expensive) European and American pressings (100 dollar range), think Cobblestone,Muse, timeless, etc. Condition of the records is therefore not as excellent as Japanese pressings (which are usually in stellar condition), prices are well within discogs range (aka high). The good selection makes up for it. Just be prepared to spend $$$, only few to no bargains to be had.

I’d like more people knew about this place- it is such a nice, well organised store. They have one record player for listening before buying. As I understood they specialised on hip-hop and jazz, but I also found a lot of interesting house stuff
I like the vibe, lots of good record too with a fairly good price, for me who’s looking for electronic music. The stuff is also helpful and friendly
Excellent shop with a wide selection of hard to find stuff from jazz, funk , disco, soul, house , techno hip Hop and rare groove!
Small, but really great record store! Well sorted with a lot of nice, funk, soul and hip hop music. The vendor knows the music well and gave really good recommendations. While the preview turntable was occupied, he was playing the records I wanted to listen to via the store speakers. Thanks! I can definitely recommend!
Amazing place with a Lot of good music! Jazz, hip hop, reggae, etc.

A nice record store with a good quality and selection of albums and 12 inch singles reasonably priced for vinyls you don't see any more . And how cool is that they have soundburgers which is a portable Bluetooth Turntable displayed . It was fun going through the records reliving my djing days 😁
I was in Japan visiting from Los Angeles, amazing selection at this store. Could have thumbed thru records for hours
Nice shop, made some House Music bargains! Very nice staff also.
Where Tower Records let me down, Face Records came in clutch with the Casiopea album. Thank you so much!!!
Good variety of records from great artists and reasonable prices.

Stopped by and found some abaolute gems in here, Krush and some mo wax joints. Nice little record shop highly recommended.
Small vinyles shop with a great selection of genres. A perfect place to go dig on a Saturday afternoon
Most of the second-hand records appear to be DJs' surplus items. With record prices rising considerably these days, the prices here are quite reasonable. All records come with detailed descriptions, making it easy for those looking for new records. Even though online downloads have become the norm, there's still something special about digging through records in stores, as you can sometimes come across them by chance.
It's located even further down from Cat Street, but if you can find it, it's a shop well worth exploring.
I went there twice, but the store was never open. I've given up. I wish Google Maps would indicate when the store is temporarily closed.

Wonderful record shop dedicated to jazz with some gems. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Will surely come back.
A literal hidden gem, it’s places like this that make crate digging so fun. It’s a small jazz store tucked away on the 3rd floor off the main street, with a relaxed atmosphere and great music playing on the turntables. I spent some time looking through the LPs and walked away with a Japanese LP release of a hard to find Frank Foster 10”, I was very happy.
An excellent selection of jazz records in pristine condition and organized neatly. The owner welcomes you into his space with kindness. Labels affixed to each record with care give a detailed description of condition, release year, and music played. Highly recommend!
I had an amazing experience at this record store in Shinjuku! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel right at home. The store has a fantastic environment dedicated exclusively to jazz records, which is a dream for any jazz enthusiast. If you're in the Shinjuku area and looking to expand your jazz collection, I highly recommend visiting this gem.
This small shop was my favourite record store to visit while in Tokyo. On a cold winter evening it was charming to enter. The ambience was cosy as I sifted through a wonderful collection of Jazz records. I left with both editions of Bill Evans Paris Concert from 1979, beautiful condition. I should have gone back when I had the chance and I sincerely hope the shop remains there in the future. I also sincerely enjoy the owners daily blog on his website. Thank you.

Great selection of US songs, was able to get some 45s at great prices. Also, excellent hi-fi listening station! Compact store.
Staff was extremely unhelpful and kept chatting on the phone never acknowledging our presence throughout the whole time we were waiting to ask a question
Got yelled at for picking up something that I was going to buy because he thought I was going to steal it or something. Rude staff, don’t visit
They seem to have a decent collection but staff is just rude. Entered the shop and said hi, the staff barely looked at me. I was going to ask questions but given their effort to ignore me I just left , said goodbye. Of course no one replied or acknowledged I was leaving
Big selection of vintage albums. Latin, soul, r&b, oldies, and obscured music from all over the world. The place is pn the 2nd floor, each albums has all the info printed on it, well organized and easy to find. Vinyls are in great mint shape. Great place to dig for vintage albums
Cozy established retail full of used American & British pop, rock, & folk LP & EP import records.

Cool vibe. Mostly newer stuff in the jazz area but plenty to see and hear. Very helpful staff.
Great selection of vinyl & merch in a beautiful area. Thanks guys

Great record store and dance studio. Amazing personell and music. Would recommend if you’re into records. Great prices as well!
Cute record store, only wish they had more second hand ones vinyls!

Small but unique record store nestled in Shimokitazawa. Unfortunately the records I wanted that they had online was from the main store in Kyoto. Had the option of shipping to this store but was leaving Tokyo by the time it would arrive. Staff was super helpful and I appreciated their efforts. Still found a record I wanted and I love their bags, one of the most unique I’ve seen. I also got a couple stickers here as well.
On 2nd floor of salon building. Didn't really have much today, half the shelves were just empty jewel cases. Don't wanna tank the reviews but yeah, it was a store.
Great spot with excellent selection and an excellent staff! Was happy to see some rare finds in their stock. They also are a record label putting out great releases! Highly recommend!
Great place. Small store but great selection.
Top notch record shop and a label. The team is kind and helpful, the selection is good. Mostly or only new items and mostly vinyl.

Very cool little boutique record store in chiyoda.. selection of mainly new n used house.. used funk n soul, techno and some dub/reggae. Reasonable prices.. nice store owner with a very cool system. 3 listening stations. No signage on the alley, down the driveway to the basement level entry.
Such a gem, especially for DJs! The owner does an incredible job curating the records, and making folks feel welcome in their space, which is beautiful. I spent a few hours digging and left with two bags of really special records. I really gravitated towards what they were playing on the system there and kept scooping up more and more. Will definitely be making this a regular stop when I visit Tokyo in the future!
Quite difficult to find with no street signage and just a small plaque beside the staircase however this was one of my favourite stores I went to on this Tokyo record store trip. Not a large selection but very good range of new release techno, house & electronics as well as several bins of quality 2nd-hand house & disco.
Looking for more underground club music? This is the place! House/prog/trance/techno/breaks… this place has it all! Also it has 3 turntables for listening, so you don’t need to queue to listen to the records. The owner was also super nice and recommended me some Japanese records in line with what I was purchasing. The soundsystem in the store also sounds lovely.
Definitely a spot to visit if you dig for some fine electronic and house records. Slightly expensive, but worth the money! Staff super helpful and friendly
Warm & modern shop featuring records of house, techno, ambient, disco, soul & funk genre, & more.

There’s a small selection of rapes on 2nd floor, but honestly, barely interesting. Mainly new editions. The second hand ones are common and nothing too wild. Seems like a cool place in general, though, some nice things are sold here, even some vintage walkman models.
This amazing shop is the meeting point for our TOKYO GRAFFITI WALKING TOUR 🗼🚶✨🎨 around SHIBUYA and HARAJUKU. Don't miss it if you're a street art lover!
Goated records shop, had Masayoshi takanaka records that are sold out elsewhere. Got the a brand new Seychelles album. Lovely store, got a free red bull 5/5
Great recordstore in Shibuya! Especially for hiphop. I bought several used hiphop 12"s for a really good price. Nice staff aswell! A little bit hard to find if you are new in Tokyo, but what isnt? Keep up the good work!
Excellent record store ... found an awesome "Rammellzee and K-Rob" record along with Futura 2000's – "The Escapades Of Futura 2000" plus a Santa Inoue figurine.

This is a great and inviting place that is perfect for your bands performance or even practice space. As an attendee of my friends Gypsy Jazz show, I paid a small cover at the door and was offered a free drink which was a welcome surprise on a such a hot and humid day. The space is very comfortable and has a various seating options. In the event your view of the stage is obstructed, there are cameras linked to monitors for you to be able to watch the show! Will definitely like to go again soon!
Open mic night was fantastic - if you are in the area at evening and looking for something to do, this is a great option!
I spent a lot of weekends here many years ago, i loved the people, the atmosphere, the inclusion!!! Keep up the good vibes!
One of Tokyo's coolest music bars. They have concerts, jam sessions and much more. The owner is a super cool guy who speaks decent english. Drinks are very cheap and the atmosphere is just…. WOW! Please check out all the photos I took during a gig. It shows you just how much detail they put to work into this little cellar bar. And there is delicious coffee self service :)
HIDDEN GEM IN TOKYO! This is the best place that I have visited during my last trip to Tokyo! Great place, good people, cool vibes! All very welcome altough we are bounded by language barrier but we all have fun!!! Open mic session is so much fun! All people sing n jam! Everyone connected by the music! This place located in KAGURAZAKA neighborhood which means the neighborhood of THE HILL OF GOD MUSIC. I am not sure if it is coincidence or not but this pleace represent the name of the neighborhood prefectly! Thumbs up for awesome boss and everyone!!! Cheers! Daniel

I came here a few days ago and after visiting the shop I’m surprised by the negative reviews. The man working at the store was super friendly! I was looking for a specific record and although they didn’t have it he was helpful, very nice and recommended some other stuff instead :) the store has a great selection and I left with great finds!
Good selection of reggae, ska, even dembow. I saw reviews after i went there, i don't think the staff is rude or cold, they're just busy checking new arrived vinyls and grading them (or preparing for online shopping orders). I asked some questions and the staff answered so detailed, making me get more knowledge of reggae. And i think a lot of small Vinyl shops are normally like this. A lot of customer just want an alone time to dig, so why bother. If you want super friendly just go to big store that only sell new Vinyls.
I went into this store with the negative reviews in mind. But I think some of them are a bit overblown. Is the owner the most friendly and approachable? No. He seemed kind of anti-social at first, but he wasn't rude or a complete asshole like the reviews made him out to be. Not every owner I encounter at record stores wants to talk and be social and that's ok. I'm similar. A lot of times, I just want to dig for some records and keep it moving. Anyways, I picked out a record that seemed interesting and he let me listen to it. While listening, we ended up chatting it up for a bit about the other records he had and we left smiling a bit. If you're the type to just dig for reggae and keep it moving, this place is perfect. If you want a more personal experience where you're talking with the owner for hours, then you might be disappointed.
This record shop treats vinyl as an object of profit and control rather than a medium of passion and sharing. No photos allowed, charging for basic label info, lashing out at curious visitors… it all reflects a closed, bitter and snobbish vision of music. In contrast, Jamaican sound system culture has always stood for generosity, exchange and collective uplift: art as transmission, not as a barrier. A record is not meant to be a commodity jealously guarded behind a wall of frustration, but a vibration that travels, nourishes and connects. Here, it’s the opposite: a cold experience, centered on money and ego, far from the cultural legacy these records should embody.
Staying at a nearby hotel and had to check this place out. I have no idea how they pay the rent selling just reggae and dancehall records, but the selection was great and prices very reasonable. Some hilariously bad reviews about the owner but he was fine with me. I picked up a few LP’s and can’t wait to get home and spin them.
Cozy shop specializing in new & used roots reggae, ska, dancehall import records, mix cds, & more.

It was a great place to grab a drink and get an amazing vinyl for a good price
Close to Midowa Station... Specialized in reggae and soul funk vinyls.. Live session on regular basis.. Comfortable place!
It's a record store without any photos, but the owner not only has a unique taste in music, but also seems to have a good network of connections. They hold music exchange events in the store, gathering players with similar tastes. In Longquan, a place with almost nothing else, the existence of this type of store is like a musical oasis found in a vast, silent desert.
I had a chance to be in the area so I stopped in. The selection includes reggae 7-inches, soul, jazz, Latin, etc., but the prices are a bit on the high side. I didn't find anything I really wanted. It has the atmosphere of a regular hangout spot.
A piece of authentic Japan. Good live music. Small, cute, original. Suitable for young people and music lovers. Worth a try.

There's various genres so I think there's something for everyone. The prices are extremely fair and reasonable. It's also easy to listen to something you're considering buying. The headphones and turn tables on the listening station were very nice to use- it's appreciated. It's clear that the owner takes care of the records very well. I noticed a cleaning station in the back. Another point which made me happy was that the records I bought came with plastic sleeves. Thank you very much (•‿•)(◕ᴗ◕✿)(☆▽☆)
Nicely curated selection of multiple genres, with a focus on electronic, dub reggae and related genres. Mostly competitive prices, especially on used records. Listening station available and you can buy needles/cartridges for Shure M44G format style.
What a great find in Shimo-Kitazawa! They carry some hard to find and obscure electronica. And You know what? It was the day when Andre 3000 and his gang were playing at Blue Notes, and I also bumped into Carlos Niño.
Love this place! Great selection of music from a staff that cares about the music they have selected and put out for sale! Really great to meet these guys will return again one day!
Amazing selection of dance music and living room music. The owner has been involved in record store business for decades and super knowledgeable about pretty much all kind of records.

Captures the essence of a record store. Has a selection of western records as well, it's treasure hunting which is large part of the fun. The owner is super friendly and the prices really good.
Excellent store! Easy to browse. A lot of very unusual, interesting records - I wish I could hear them all. I visited multiple record stores during my visit, and this was my favorite.
big selection of dvd and vhs, tons of CDs, limited LP selection but some gems hidden in the bins. Ground floor. LPs are a bit disorganized but the pricing is really great so it’s worth going through all the bins to find something special!
very good place! have many many albums and very cheap. the people who attend are very friendly and can help you find the cd you need, it is a good store for a tourist
I came to Japan three times from Russia and each time I specially came to this store from Tokyo - I bought records and received stamps for the purchase in a special card. However, my wallet fell into the water and the stamped card was destroyed. The ritual was stopped. During my fourth trip, the store was closed, but I will still come here for the fifth time.

Brought 5000+y worth records and got paid 300
Rare is great for Japanese 7" releases old American & european music. Some good dollar bins & a huge selection of mini discs. Dope & small VHS collection too.
All the RARE records stores are worth the visit. Always find great priced vinyl to help fill the gaps in your collection.
Really good and eclectic selection. Could spend hours browsing here.
Decent record store!

If Akiba is Tokyo’s neon jungle, then this joint is its secret vinyl temple: an industrial, metal-paneled bunker filled with more records than I had emotional capacity to process. You walk in expecting a casual browse & suddenly you’re elbows-deep in J-Pop, American punk, 70s jazz fusion & albums featuring moustached men who look like they own three ski lodges & a timeshare in the Bahamas. The place is massive. Like, IKEA for music nerds massive. Every corner you turn, there’s another galaxy of LPs, CDs, and “I didn’t come here for this but I’m absolutely buying it” boxes. If Marie Kondo ever stepped inside, she’d burst into flames. I came in hunting for a punk album for my brother-in-law. Easy, right? Five minutes later I’m holding a stack of possibilities, questioning who I am, what music is, and whether ska actually counts as a personality type. The staff? Absolute legends. My Japanese is, let’s say, “baby mode unlocked,” but they rolled with it...friendly, patient, and genuinely into the vibe of helping a foreigner not accidentally buy polka. At one point I described the sound I was looking for as “energetic… but angry… but also fun?” and the clerk just nodded thoughtfully and said: “Ahh… yabai.” And boom! -new vocabulary unlocked. “Yabai.” A magic word that apparently means awesome, terrible, dangerous, cool, and “my brother-in-law is either going to love this or his wife will text me asking what the hell I’ve done.” I left triumphantly clutching a punk record, feeling like I had leveled up both culturally and musically. My brother-in-law is going to think I’m some underground Tokyo expert rather than a dude who panic-nodded his way through a conversation with a very patient record clerk.
This was the store with the highest prices for used CD's during this visit to Japan. Nevertheless, I visited on my last day when I was eager to make a purchase with my final remaining budget (gate-closing pressure), they had two titles I wanted and I bought them anyway, leading to my biggest music purchase of the whole trip. So, the moral is, don't come here on your last day, I had no choice, not having heard about this store until two days prior. There are very few of the sought after releases from the 80's, the 32XD's and 20P's, left in this store - fewer than even their Shibuya store had (where the inventory is dwindling (also). But that's the common situation all around Japan (and sought after first releases from Japan are alnost offered for the prices of Platinum SHM CD's, approaching ¥5,000 ( example of an 32XD of Steely Dan's "Aja" seen at disk union, Shinjuku). Note: Those photos don't show the two items I bought, I didn't spend that much. These just caught my eye.
A great record store that I stumbled upon on my way to the toy shop. The two uncle staff members on the evening of October 16, 2025, were really awesome and very patient.
Bought some Simon and Garfunkel Lps, Steely Dan, etc from this place. The LPs were very good quality and reasonable price. The service staff was very friendly too. Will return again for Vinyl goodies when I am in Tokyo again. Keep up the good work...😀
I visited here 7 pm around on Wednesday. It was good time to look around comfortably, there were only few people. There are both new and secondhand records & CDs with lots of varieties. I got 3pcs x 100yen, 3pcs of 280 yen, and 1pcs of 780yen. Very nice and calmed place, I’ll visit again.

Very cool little record shop. Hard to find, it's located one floor above Saizeriya. It's a small shop, loaded with CDs and vinyl, with great collectables on display on the walls. Tons of punk, metal, and such. I found a first press of Balzac's debut album on CD here, along with some other gems. Really fun store.
I am very new to metal but found the store recommended online. The vibe is very nice and also I did not now many bands the owner recommended me japanese metal bands that I really like. Definetly worth a visit!
Boy is always nice to visit if you're into obscure metal and hardcore punk. They have a nicely curated selection of hard to find stuff and reissues and usually have a couple of collectibles laying around as well. Friendly staff too. The shop is hidden on the third floor of some building, look for the amazing sign below 😅😅
Best old school/extreme metal/punk/hc store in Tokyo
Excellent shop for extreme music (punk/metal) acolytes. I spent more than a hour in the looking for rarities from the Japanese scene and I was more than satisfied when I left. The owner is very knowledgeable and open for chats. Highly recommended! 🤘

In September, my son and I traveled to Japan together. I bought four vinyl records of Tatsuro Yamashita. Although I completed the checkout quickly, I couldn't stay too long as we had to rush to the next place. Thank you for your service. We will come again next time.
Good Shop with many styles of music. Owner speaks good English
Super cool collection of "not your usual" records. Many great ones at 550 yen only!
Quite a vast collection if you're into hiphoo, r&b, soul, disco, rare groove. The store is quite small though so it gets packed quite easily. And don't miss out on checking the crates on the floor. So many gems.
Super kind and helpful owner who knows hip hop and original samples through and through. A must-visit if you are a vinyl junkie/DJ. Heavier on funk, soul, rare grooves, and the US hip hop. Their 45 stacks are solid - I have come across some dope cuts here. The store also puts out exclusive mix CDs by the local greats like DJ Koco, who often performs here in-store live. The owner travels to the States quite frequently and keeps the inventory always fresh. I personally like to go through their dollar/five dollar bins for overlooked items on wax. Original tees, bags, various Shimokita related times also available. Recommended.
Simple modern retail featuring US import CDs & records of rap, hip hip, soul, funk & dance genre.

A cool place but for being called a record store they have barely ANY records (only one small stack) and the rest are all CD’s. Come here for CD’s but not records.
Crazy awesome jazz collection with some other gems.

Wonderful wonderful treasure trove. Wide range of stock including memorabilia and Aoki is super knowledgeable and friendly. Will go back again as soon as I get the chance!!
What a wonderful little shop!!! A Must-Seen for every Beatles-Fan!!! Very kindful person and so much impressions!
This is a very unique store, there's no storefront, it's just a tiny Tokyo apartment crammed from floor to ceiling with Beatles records and memorabilia. Everything is nicely organized with great information on the cards. I'm more of a junk bin digger, so there was nothing for me to buy, but if you're a serious fan of the Fab Four then definitely stop in, the prices are fair and I'm sure just about every Beatles record is in here no matter how obscure.
Tiny shop tucked away in a random building near Shinjuku Station, easy to miss if you're not looking closely. Owner is super friendly and knowledgeable about all things Beatles. I found a couple of rare items only found in Japan for my parents who are huge fans back in the US. Was pleasantly surprised that credit cards were accepted!
Very small shop on the 5th floor. However don’t let small size fool you, this is an absolute gem for Beatles fans - many items I’ve never seen before, all in great condition at very reasonable prices. Shop keeper is very friendly and happy to give you recommendations or suggestions on items. He speaks great English. Records, memorabilia, books, posters etc. Will visit next time I am in Tokyo

Small but pretty good; there are crates of many genres of music you can think of. The prices are fairly reasonable and the staff are friendly.
In the basement you will find thousands of quality recycled records of mainly rock/pop and j-pop genre at reasonable prices, with knowledgeable and accommodating team.
It's hidden in the basement restaurant floor where meat smell occupies and make you wonder if you ever lost in Parco, but you're on the right track. Small but nice place to take a look.
good shop. small but worth a visit. mainly rock, some jazz, lots of japanese music. not big like some of their other outlets.
Excellent place to buy hip hop & rnb

One of the best record stores on the planet. If you like Jazz the. Yusuke is your go to. Been here for 20+ years and always find something great.
Am sure it’s great! But impossible to find. No neighbouring stores could point it out and no info. Please make it easier to find your store so can buy some records!
Wa Jazz for the soul…. Koenji’s shoutengai (shopping street) is a vibrant and eclectic mix of shops, bars and restaurants. Amongst the mix is Master Yusuke’s Universpunds - an absolute gem. Beautifully curated and laid out. Yusuke’ English is excellent and he is very helpful. Well worth the trip…like of the best places in Japan - the entrance is hidden up a non descript secret stair well 🤣🤣🤣 Enjoy
Amazing and lovely man the best records Thank you. Jazz man 🙏🙂
If you're in Tokyo and are a fan of jazz, you owe it to yourself to stop by Universounds.

My favourite bar ever. Felt like the owner was playing tunes especially for me - ultra obscure and niche. I would happily travel 10,000km again to have my favourite dub/On-U Sound records spun in a cool, welcoming atmosphere. More than anyone has the right to expect from a bar. Visit. Hangout. Enjoy.
Our favourite hidden gem! We found this bar from a Timeout recommendation and we’re SO happy we went! Makoto is such a lovely, welcoming, friendly bartender and owner. He has thousands of records and an incredible sound system. Such a unique bar hidden away upstairs. We’ve already recommended it to friends visiting Tokyo!
My girlfriend and I visited this incredible bar on a Friday two weeks ago during our adventure to Japan. It was exactly what I was hoping for - vinyls, Japanese whiskey, great conversation and superb music. Came away with a Japanese Brubeck pressing to take home to Australia, and an absolute highlight night of our trip. Will be back one day! Thanks Makoto-san!
I liked this bar a lot. The atmosphere is unique and the owner is incredibly inviting. In a city full of people, it was nice to end the night in a place that wasn’t crowded yet felt so homey. Whether you’re into records or just looking for a cozy spot to unwind, I highly recommend this bar for an off-the-beaten-path experience!
Had the best time! The best tunes we found in Tokyo. Super rare and curated and amazing vibe from Marco!

I don't understand the low ratings for this store. The lady behind the counter was kind and took an interest in where I'm from. Assuming this is her store, she must have put a ton of effort into making custom separators. In my experience in Tokyo, I haven't seen a shop with more handwritten separators, most of which use the band's logo or are otherwise stylized. I just really appreciate it. Additionally, everything I saw was well priced and well cataloged. Good selection too, this store is absolutely brimming with UK punk and pop. If 7/12 inch singles aren't your thing you might find it harder to walk away with something. That said, there are plenty of EPs and LPs to choose from. I was able to find some Adam Ant singles in the corner, and left happy. In my experience, record stores either feel like a shop for new records and used records that were traded in or bought wholesale, or they feel like someone's curated collection that's been put on a shelf with price tags. I have no issue with the former, but to me there's really something special about the latter, which is what this shop felt like to me. My only mistake was not taking any pictures. I am definitely going to return.
Incredible store run by extremely kind and knowledgeable owners. An absolute must visit for anyone interested in Punk, Power Pop, Pub Rock, and nearly any other sub genre of rock you can imagine. Mostly UK and other Euro press editions rather than Japanese press but each section and artist card is stacked deep with rarities and related titles. All the main artists and titles will be there but also if you need the 12” singles from one of the guys that Joe Strummer hired to replace Mick…they have them! Steve Lake from Zounds solo albums on your list? It’s there! This place is absolutely LETHAL to bank accounts. Can’t sing the praises highly enough. Follow them on Instagram to keep up with their opening hours as they can vary.
Amazing shop on the 2F of the building. Owner is lovely. Huge selection of hard to find albums with very detailed bin cards. Mostly LP’s but decent selection of 7”s as well. Lots of signed and hard to find albums. We went back several times to make sure we saw as much as we could if the collection and made several purchases!
Great selection. It’s on the 2nd floor of the building right next door to ramen shop. My only critic is I wish the lady played her music louder! It was real quiet in the shop when I was there haha. Incredible selection, seriously. If you’re a crate digger, check this spot out.
Store of the legendary record label VINYL JAPAN. Good selection, including a section of their own releases. The owner was nice and gave me a Heavenly "Atta Girl" pin

Very cool record store with a unique collection and helpful friendly staff. I had a lot of fun digging here! Thanks for your patience with my novice Japanese. I enjoyed our conversation!
All the records are in excellent condition. They handle all genres. They kindly explain local band EPs and even let you listen to them. Sorry for always staying so long, haha.
They had records that you wouldn't be able to get at Discnion at reasonable prices. The records themselves were also in pretty good condition. ( ゚ 3゚)
The shop is not large, but the service is friendly and there is no tension. They have cassette tapes available.

Nice location with a good selection. Be sure to get a punch card so you can earn a discount on a future purchase!
The prices for the records tend to be on the higher end of the scale, however they have a great selection, especially of Progressive Rock! The atmosphere was pretty nice too! I was visiting from Alaska, and I can not wait to return again!
The vibe in here is amazing…

A diffrent feeling compare with disk union or tower record. the shop hide in a small alley in kichoji. lots of 70s black music and japanese pop music. i bought a diana ross vinyl and a サニーダイーサービス‘s CD. good price and good vibe.
This place is amazing. Selection - incredible. The staff - warm and helpful. The vibes - immaculate. I already am making plans to go back! Excited to listen to my new records 😊🌴🥥🎶❤️
Excellent second hand record store I found some great Japanese underground music there
Great little shop, mix of genres. Friendly vibes

Fantastic shop for funk, soul, and funky jazz. Reasonable prices and nice owner. Will definitely be back!!
A funky space packed with Funk, Soul, and Rare Groove vinyl records. The owner is a friendly and nice guy♪ Since the shop has irregular closing days, it's recommended to check beforehand. If you are a vinyl addict and love 60s-80s black music, you should go soon!!!
I think it's a hidden gem, with amazing records lined up that make you wonder, "Are they really worth the price?" I also think the service is very good.
This store has always had the best customer service!

日本、〒101-0051 東京都千代田区神田神保町2丁目20
Great Sortiment. i found 2 plates i was searching for a long time that other, larger vendors didnt had.
It's a tiny shop, but I think I spent 45 minutes browsing the amazing variety of music they have: Japanese pop and rock, tango, jazz. I ended up buying a Japanese edition of Yes's *Close to the Edge* for a really good price. I recommend visiting if you're in Jimbocho and looking to hunt for Japanese records. (There's another small record store just a few meters away as well.)
It's a small shop, but it has a high density of records. There are many record shops nearby, so if you have time, why not stop by?
I stopped by here on my way to and from a soba restaurant for New Year's Eve soba. They were selling knitwear made in Nepal. Open-fingered gloves, detachable ones. Beanies. Ethnic patterns. ... Amidst all that, I found a pashmina-blend scarf (stole)! It was paisley and vibrantly colored! I'd been looking for a scarf, so this was perfect timing! Great pattern and colors. I ended up buying two. One at the end of the year, and one at the end of January. ... The color and pattern are simply amazing.
I'd rate it 4, almost 5 stars. They sell used records and some imported goods (?). The store is a little small. According to the owner, they're open all year round. They mainly sell records, but they also have a small selection of CDs. I think they cover a variety of genres, including Japanese and Western music, jazz, classical, world music, and disco. I don't recall seeing any hip hop. There are more affordable records available in a standing area, and bargains available in a crouching area. Most of the bargains were Japanese releases, but I get the impression there are a lot of great finds. However, as mentioned above, the store is small, so it's hard to see the bargains unless you pack compact bags. This is a record store I'd like to visit from time to time in the future. As an aside, the owner seems to chat with people he's close to, so if you're good at talking, I think it's fine to strike up a conversation with him.

日本、〒135-0016 東京都江東区東陽3丁目27−3
Well stocked record shop with a wide range of genres in stock. Records are sorted by genre and clearly tagged in the top right corner in the native language. You'll find a wide selection here across multiple languages including Japanese, English, Italian, French, etc. When I was here browsing one day, I even heard the meows of a cat on the second floor. I asked the shop owner if he had a cat and he said that he does and sometimes the cat makes an appearance in the record shop itself! Great prices, but note that it's cash only!
Modest selection of highly curated vinyl including LPs and 45s. Found a couple of real gems at reasonable prices. Remember, this is a cash only seller.
Very lovely place to go and healing 🤍🤍
Collection was a little limited, but if you're into jazz/oldies it's a great spot. Beautiful space!
Good selection of vinyl, didn't see more modern albums but had a lot of the good old stuff

Cool place with a nice selection of cassette tapes upstairs. Besides that, some records, CDs, DVDs and even some VHS tapes. All seem to be focused mostly on female perfomers.
I've been to the store many times for every Tokyo trip, this shop has variety of Showa era goods, EPs are as cheap as 330 JPY per piece.
Having visited numerous other vinyl record shops shops in Shinjuku and Shibuya, from Tower Records to RECOfan, there was always a consistent theme in each of these stores. Though these stores had commodities I had been eagerly looking for in my journey in Japan, there was a distinct lack of charm associated with the greatness of the late Showa era before the tumultuous Lost Decades were to follow. As I entered the store, I was met by occupants twice my age and an interior aged in the same manner as a vinyl record's cover does. But the age of anything present in the store gave off so strongly the charm of the late Showa era I had yet to encounter. I became strongly nostalgic for a past I never lived through. Strangely, I didn't feel out of place in here. I like to attest this to the idea that the late Showa era was ahead of its time, firmly clinging onto the edge before its inevitable fall. I hadn't come here for the environment but it was relaxing whilst I looked for albums of Kayokyoku idols I knew. I was pleasantly surprised to find Akemi Ishii's Mona Lisa and Yoshimi Iwasaki's Kokoro no Atalier. As I came down from the 2nd floor having looked through all the vinyl records, the manager thanked me for visiting before realizing I was carrying some vinyl records and seemed incredibly ecstatic that I was looking to make a purchase. The Japanese are well-known for their customs of respect, but these series of interactions were far more respectful than anything I had yet to encounter during my time in Japan. I was led over to the counter where another person, who I can only assume was the owner, came to help. I wasn't able to speak one word of Japanese yet the transaction went as smoothly as if I had. They thanked me for my patronage and I had regrettably left this timeless relic of a fading yet precious era. It's clear that this store is operated by people who wanted to preserve the best parts of a monumental period in Japan's history. It is a must visit for anyone who wants to escape the monotonocity of retail records shops.
Good vibes!!!
My favorite cd shop in Tokyo 👍

I came here to visit when I was travelling in Japan from Australia. Wow! I almost lost my mind! As someone who loves records and second hand records specifically. I have never once in my whole life living in Australia seen such a big variety of different genres. I found so many records I had been searching for years to find in this one shop. I also didn’t have the right amount of money on the first day, the man working the till was kind enough to hold them for me until the next morning and I was able to purchase them. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!
Bursting at the seams with vinyl. Especially good for jazz, soundtracks and City Pop. I was overwhelmed by some of the jazz vinyl. Quite a few original pressings at market prices and sometimes less. Disappointed by the rock offerings which seemed overpriced. I bought a hard-to-find Japanese jazz l.p. which was accurately graded.
Darumaya is a fantastic record shop about ten minutes walking from Ikebukuro Station. Their collection of jazz and pop/rock, both Japanese and Western, is very impressive. I managed to find a few rare records there that I had been looking for a long time. The shopkeepers were very kind and let me practice my Japanese, but they also speak English. I would absolutely come back to this store should I be lucky enough to return to Japan in the future.
Thank you for coming into Green Beacon Brewing Co Billy. You were very lovely to meet, I hope you enjoyed the beer! Enjoy your time in Australia :)
There’s a wide variety of genres but nothing too exciting in the bins. If there was anything that grabbed my eye it was way overpriced. Also, a lot of the records were pulled and placed in front of the jackets making it difficult to see what album it was.
Spacious reseller shop for new & used records, CDs & DVDs, with a big jazz, soul & world section.

日本、〒150-0042 東京都渋谷区宇田川町30−7 4F
The shop is very small and it can get crowded and hot when its busy BUT, you always find records you have been looking for very long time in here.
I found some real gems here, dope spot to dog and get lost.
If you're a tourist looking for a music store, I can't really recommend this franchise. Look for Tower Records if new and unused products are what you're looking for. These are second-hand stores that segregate music genres based on location. You've got reggae, rap, hip-hop, and r&b in one storefront, and a few blocks away is the pop, rock, and metal location. There's no way to tell which one you're in until you're inside. Individual artist availability varies, too, since it's a second-hand store that does not get new merchandise.
This particular Disk Union (there’s a few in Tokyo) is known to have the biggest house / techno / electronic collection. I removed one star for the lack of sub genre, there’s a whole 2nd hand section named “techno” where they mix minimal, deep house, electro, break, tech house, and (a tiny bit of) techno… So if you’re looking for a specific genre it will take hours to go through those bins. Unfortunately i couldn’t go through them all otherwise i’m sure i’d have bought more!
Very good selection but didn’t find what I wanted!

日本、〒101-0062 東京都千代田区神田駿河台4丁目3−新 お茶の水ビル 2階
I’ve been here for a week in Tokyo and Disk Union is definitely my favourite and go to record branch to shop at. They always have what I’m looking for and some rare and hard to find records which I thought I would never find. I ended up spending just under an hour here and spent just under ¥20,000. There’s a wide range of many different music genres which you can think of. There’s even a whole row which is full of Beatles albums in the back of the store.
A small but nice selection of cassette tapes, some vintage, some new. Prices seem moderate, but selection could be a bit better. Still, drop by if you’re looking for tapes.
I am a flight attendant and I buy CDs and records all over the world. So it is easy for me to compare stores internationally. If you have to limit your visit to a few stores only in Tokyo then don't miss this one! The shop offers a broad variety of genres: mainstream rock/pop, soul, hardrock/heavy metal, progressive... all on used CDs/records plus a selection of new releases.
I love Disk Union chain and this shop is probably the best in town (even better than the ones in Shibuya and Shinjuku) and one of the biggest. The staff is very kind and helpful and I just got my John Lennon signature box at an incredible price.
Well organised with some great bargains on second hand records. Their grading system is very accurate IMO

日本、〒155-0031 東京都世田谷区北沢1丁目40−6 カシワ3rd 1階
This is one of the best record stores I’ve visited in Tokyo, especially if you enjoy digging through vinyl with a clear and well-organized layout. The Shimokitazawa branch is spacious, bright, and categorized extremely well — Jazz, Rock, Soul/Blues, Japanese releases, Anime soundtracks, and a huge New Arrivals section. The selection is massive and well-priced, with clear condition labels on every item. You can easily spend hours browsing without feeling overwhelmed. What made my visit even better was the staff. I was looking for several specific vinyl records, and one of the staff members patiently helped me search through multiple sections, one by one. With so many categories in the store, it could have been impossible to find them myself — but he still went the extra mile. Truly one of the friendliest and most helpful service experiences I’ve had in a record shop. If you’re a vinyl collector, a music lover, or someone searching for Japanese editions, this place is absolutely worth the visit. Highly recommended.
Had visited this Disk Union outpost in Shimokitazawa, in April and December 2024. Great selection of Jazz and other genre records and fair pricing. A recommended stop if you are record shopping in Tokyo.
staff were incredibly nice, the selection is top-tier and the prices are VERY good. Saw many new western album imports so they stay up to date. WILL COME HERE AGAIN.
Amazing place for used records hunting. There are a lot of hidden gems here. I managed to come across Mariya Takeuchi’s Plastic Love LP here, even though the price is steep, however the selection is amazing!
One of the best record stores in Tokyo.

Disk Union is definitely one of the best record branches (up there with Tower Records) in Tokyo! Great and wide range of many different music genres and I even found what I was looking for. Good customer service by the staff and reasonable prices.
A fantastic place to visit. Really good selection of vinyl and CDs at decent prices. It’s a big shop but can get busy, especially if you are in there a while like me! If you are looking for a certain artist or band, keep looking in different sections as they have them in multiple locations. This store is on the 3rd floor next to the Disney store. Highly recommended.
Really cool place, find it inside a building on the 3rd floor. Browse the sidewalk to spot the sign. Hadn’t set foot in a cd/record store since the early 00’s and for some reason the shinjuku area has lots of them. Most of the stores like this one carry mainly titles up to a decade ago (except for J and K pop), don’t expect to find the latest top 40 us/Europe hits, but just like 20 years ago you can browse the cds physically and discover some unknown artists. It made me realize how much of an effort it was back then to buy and discover some music, it’s a great experience and I purposely purchased some unknown cds (prices range from 100 to 700 yen on average) can’t wait to listen to them, wait… do I still even have a cd player???
I’m into 70/80’s pop/rock music ..I visited many Disk Union stores in Tokyo during my recent trip. Beside Disk Union @Shibuya Rock in Tokyo, Shimokitazawa and Ikeburuko.. I enjoyed this one at Shinjuku the best! I think is the biggest Disk Union store in Tokyo! Stop at Shinjuku Station. Follow signs for East Gate and Exit via B6. Walk about 6 min to Disk Union Shinjuku Second Hand Record Store. Once you reached 3rd floor, the setup and decor beside the entrance and in front of the lift, just wanna you to take a few pictures before you step into the store.. You probably spend 1-2 hours at the store, browsing and grabbing a few gems and LPs! Check out the ¥100 selections at the bottom racks, definitely worth a look.. probably can find many lost gem ! Leave the store a very Happy man, Happy purchases! 😊 Thank you Disk Union 🎌
Great place for used record, if want find something special, direct ask assist from staff, they will assist search in computer. My treasure is found here🥰 have plenty of accessories in here as well. Mofi inner sleeve, used catridge.

Not the most famous or celebrated, but my favourite record shop in Tokyo! I have spent an inordinate amount of time and money in here over the decades. A wonderful place!
Good little record shop with a decent selection of western and Japanese vinyl.
Your Song Elton John
The store is overflowing with nostalgic CDs and records. They have a selection and bargains that you won't find in other stores, so it's always fun to look for them. They're piled up in front of the register, perhaps on purpose or as a space to organize things, and if I find something I like there, I sometimes end up spending over my budget. For some reason, it's an exciting store. I found another bargain. This place is really great! So nostalgic! I ended up buying something again without even thinking. If the timing is right, you'll find what you've been wanting!
Both the record and the jacket are in good condition, and ¥500-¥800 is a bargain. I got 5 for ¥3000 😃

My son asked me to look for two particular hard to find Japanese jazz vinyls. I asked the owner and he took me to the section for one of them and while I was looking he brought me the other one I was looking for. Super nice and great selection. Also really nice that he had a place to put my other bags while I was looking. The isles are tight so being able to put my bag somewhere was nice for me and for other people that needed to scoot by. Great selection and music playing on their system were spot on. Go to this store
It’s the record store from Perfect Days, a movie I love. I bought nineteen Japanese jazz fusion and city pop records at affordable prices. Most notably, I got an original pressing of Takanaka’s Brazilian Skies, with the obi-strip intact. The owner seemed a little prickly but such is the nature of record shop owners. He runs a great store, offered some solid recommendations and is probably over-inundated with annoying tourists
I found some awesome, original Japanese LPs here! Distinctive entrance, tugged on the 1st floor, a true hidden gem for vinyl geeks. Photos are not allowed inside unless you buy
One of my favourite spot in Tokyo with great music on the sound system, customers speaking in hushed tones, and highly knowledgeable advice from the owners. This is an audiophile’s paradise, scores of boxes crammed with vinyl piled on top of each other. One section specialises in pop, rock and a big selection of Japanese artists, while the other is more eclectic: new recordings and reissues of little-known world music, jazz, funk and electronic.
Myself and my wife spent about 30 minutes browsing through such a wonderfully eclectic collection of records (back in April 2025). We so wanted to buy something, but it was the start of our trip in Japan and I suppose, I it took me a while to realise that while I wanted to buy a few gems, I'd be too worried about damaging the vinyl during our travels. Great to have somewhere to put your bag down so you can focus on the album covers. Really loved this Tokyo neighbourhood and finding this store was such a treat.
Established warehouse-like shop offering LP & EP records of rock, soul, jazz, reggae, Hip-Hop, more.

Great place and people, very welcoming and supportive. The store has some unique records!! Greetings from Argentina and US!
It's truly rare to find small, individually owned record stores like this nowadays. The CDs sold in the store must be carefully selected by the owner, and many albums have introductions written by the owner himself, which is fantastic.
This is an old-fashioned CD and record store located in front of Musashi-Koyama Station. Whenever I'm in Tokyo, I always stop by and enjoy chatting with the staff, who are full of love for music. Whenever I come here, I always discover new musicians and music.
Visited on January 18, 2024. A rare street-level record store these days. Being here gives me a sense of peace in a way. On this day, the music playing in front of the store was by Mark "Kazuto Murata," a "disciple" of Tatsuro Yamashita. This is Pet Sounds Records at its finest. After all, the owner, Mr. Mori, is a "friend" of Tatsuro Yamashita. What's that all about? Fans of Tatsuro Yamashita should definitely stop by.
Visited on November 25, 2020. This is a music shop that is known only to those in the know, but completely ignored by those who don't. There was a record store in Aoyama that didn't accept "first-time customers," but this store has a down-to-earth feel due to the location, but even so, it might be a little tough for "first-time customers" at first. By frequenting this kind of specialty store, you will be freed from "first-time customers." I am one of them, after all.

A shop specializing in enka music that evokes the Showa era, a place I hope will be preserved for future generations. The owner and staff were very polite, and I definitely want to go again! The history of the sign outside is fantastic!
I visited the store to promote the debut single of Junretsu's younger brother band, Monaki. It had the atmosphere of a good old-fashioned CD shop, and was a great store with autographs from various singers!
I went to pick up Maino Sora's CD.
I went there for the campaign of Akiko Ozawa's new song. It's a bar where you can hear her sing up close.
Apparently it is known as a sacred place for Enka singers, and even today, Enka singers come to sing when they release their CDs.

A great store with a great collection of different music genres you can think of; rock, punk, soul, jazz, indie and so on. The prices are reasonable and everything is sorted neatly.
Disk Union is probably the best record store chain in the world, and this particular one is a contender for my favorite - amazing selection of mostly used records that are very fairly priced. Visiting is always an experience and you never leave empty-handed. In a way, i’m happy i dont live closeby, because I could spend my life savings here.
While I had blown through my record budget already I had to visit to at least browse. Staff were friendly and if I had set aside more cash for records I would've walked out with something. Deep selection of both records and CDs both here and across their other locations nearby, which is amazing if you collect both like me. May well be the best record store chain in the entire world. Prices are very fair.
Blew so much money but I kept finding great records! 👌
This is a great record store for browsing. There are a lot of good records that can be found here.
Multi-floored music store selling rock, J-pop, jazz & dance records, plus books & video software.

Thank you very much to Record City for letting me buy the record I like. I live in China and the official postage to overseas is very cheap and cost-effective, it's perfect!!
Office of online store. Cannot buy vinyl here
I was looking for a store to sell my LPs from the 70s and 80s and found this shop while searching online. They seemed trustworthy because they specialize in records and CDs, and it was close to my house (Osaka Purchase Center), so I brought them in for an appraisal. To be honest, I had no idea what the going rate for used records was, but they carefully appraised them and bought them at a price I was happy with. Most of my records were metal, and the person in charge told me, "We put a lot of effort into buying metal records," which made me really happy. The staff were all very polite and helpful.
They bought back the CDs I had been collecting since I was a student. The phone service was also polite and I'm very satisfied.
My 700 or so records were quickly packed and appraised smoothly. They also appraised some of my albums at 10,000 yen, which was a higher price than I expected, which was very helpful. I would definitely use their services again.

Was after a Hank Mobley record and found just what I wanted. The shop is on 9th floor. Polite staff. Great store.
Fantastic record store that specializes in older records like SPs, but also have a great collection of Japanese oldies, jazz, anime OTs etc. Slightly pricey but everything is in great shape. No 100 yen bin with scratched up records. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Great collection of used records. The shop is at 9th floor. Polite staff.
Lovely shop, one of few specializing in 78rpm records. Perhaps a bit expensive for some, but easily made up for by very kind and helpful staff as well as very high quality product. I hope to return some day.
precious records and CDs

Excellent record store! Filled to the brim with amazing art in all formats! I picked up two excellent techno records from Japanese artists. Highly recommend!
Eclectic store with an immense collection of tapes, records, and interesting one-off punk/noise merch. The owner was really polite and had a lovely selection of oddball music playing each time i visited. All the records were fairly priced, very special space and uniquely Koenji
Strange, weird but beautiful music from all over the world in vinyl, CD, and cassettes. Nice sound rendered over a small collection of loudspeakers. Overall, an excellent taste, passion and respect for music. It's a must.
Niche selection including a decent Japanese noise section on cd. However, limited secondhand selection and prices are a little takai. I left empty-handed. There is a 500¥ cd section, but the best thing in it was a Toni Braxton album. Support independent stores by all means, but profile of the store is not accessible to poor people. Symptomatic of continued gentrification. Build the damn road already.
a collect shop with loads of mysterious items, experimental music cds & vinyls, tshirts bags keyrings and so on... bought one beads earrings and an yellow magic orchestra vinyl, the owner was so kind and willing to help me out!
Funky, cozy shop with walls of domestic & imported records & CDs, tapes, T-shirts, pins & bags.

Well priced and some great deals if you buy multiple pieces. Mostly vinyl and cd’s I didn’t see any cassettes
Great independent vinyl and CD shop, one of the best I’ve found in 12 years living here in the Tokyo/Kanagawa area. There always tons of new stuff, especially if you’re prepared to hunt through the boxes before they’re put on the shelves. The prices are good too. Last time I found the MFN original Master Of Puppets 2LP 45 rpm limited edition plus a load of other great stuff. Cash only, no credit, so come prepared!
If your fingers dusty this wicked little shop has alotta gems...don't expect the record-shop-day-shizzle...it's deeper. Even the selecta was on point. I'll be back
Truly amazing collection of old classic records.
The owner patiently answered my beginner-level questions. Records and audio are a complex world, so even buying just one item can be quite difficult. Stores like this are a rare find. The shopping street in front of Gakugeidaigaku Station also had a great atmosphere, and I felt like I had made a good purchase.

A super nice lp place with many classical recordings.
Vinyl collection is impressive. You can find various records in a very good shape. Real gem for people collecting vinyls
Rare vinyl in impeccable shape. Collectors items found here.
As someone else wrote, I've been visiting this place frequently for nearly 50 years (looking for records). Recently, whenever I passed by, it was closed, so I wondered if it had been swallowed up by the times and closed down... I'm impressed that it's still open! Half of the vinyl records are classical, and the rest are jazz, rock, and pop. I hear they now also have pop music, J-pop, and CDs. After talking with the owner (at the time), I ended up buying a record of a great performance (although it was classical). I wonder where it's now? I don't think they've gotten rid of it, though... I was so impressed that I took a photo of the exterior, but since everyone else was taking one... Yesterday, I went to buy croquettes, so I didn't go inside. Next time, I'll take my time exploring the inside.
The store is located very close to Ogikubo Station. It's easy to find. More than half of the inventory is classical music, but there were also more rock, folk, and other records than I expected. The store is small, but well-organized, so I was able to browse in peace. The staff were polite, and the prices were relatively reasonable. I'd definitely like to visit again.
