the owner is rude because he is trying to rip you off on vinyl pricing. noticed that they priced amy winehouse (new, 2007 issue) €5 higher than concerto. didn’t think much of it. thought it was neat they have shirts and a big section of death metal, so took a photo of that section to send to someone to encourage a visit to the shop. owner came over and said no photos. ok, weird but understood. i was discussing the selection in the store over texts and listening to my music (so looking at my phone). he then came over and said: i asked you two times, no telephone. you go. no discussion. cool, i left. p.s. internet, here are the two photos i took.

I had to go here after seeing all the one star reviews. apparently my experience was different, I was not yelled at nor kicked out. found some payche and metal i wanted. easily could have dug another hour if I wasn't time constrained. I do wish things had been organized and alphabitized better.

I have had a few less than happy visits to this shop. Today was the worst. I came into the shop with a paper bag containing a shirt and other items from C+A. The old guy running the store, without permission, put his hands into the bag, saying What’s in here? Presumably looking if I had stolen something. He even ask me, even speak to me. I was disgusted and felt disrespected. I am a grown man. I won’t go again. It was enough for me.

For those of us who enjoy listening to vinyl records, we know that going to record stores is a little bit of a hunt: you never know what you'll find or even if you'll find something that you want to purchase. There's a lot of vinyls on display and a wide range of genres, you're bound to find at least one record of your liking. Big rock, metal, and punk sections. The store owner was relaxed while we browsed, and we purchased a great record that doubles as a fun Amsterdam memory

Always liked their music and coffee, you can taste the richness in the beans. Good to a catchup and conversation too, or just quietly enjoying your time in the cafe listening to good records and browsing through all the books and magazines. The guy runs by himself can recommend records for you too. Don't bring a laptop but a tablet and drawing was ok.

It's a gem, a great place in the center to escape. But it's a record store with a great selection and a owner with a great attitude who does what he wants and wants what he does. Go there to spent your money and share the love.

Came in during a heavy snowing day, the atmosphere is special and several selection for V60 pour over coffee.

Cool and quirky cafe with good quality coffee. They have lots of records and vinyls too aswell as a few board games. Wish there was more seating !

Janet L ★★★★★ 11 months ago

Absolutely loved my latte - the coffee was so smooth and aromatic. I can see why it was highly recommended by several coffee websites and bloggers. I wish we had this great quality tasting coffee back home. The coffee shop vibe is also so unique and trendy with the music and huge collection of vinyl records.

Despite the reviews I read about this store, the lady was exceptionally kind to me. She understood perfectly what I was looking for, and I got an excellent record. We had time for a great conversation about music and life. Don't pay attention to the reviews; she does an excellent job and DOES speak English. Go prepared with some cash, as she doesn't accept cards. PS. In which other store will they have a Bottesini section?

Ada Stecca a year ago

Don’t go into this store unprepared. This is not the type of record store where you can have a look around and, if anything catches your attention, consider buying something (what I’d consider a normal store, before this experience). The owner simply won’t have it. If you walk in without a clear intention to buy a specific record, she will nag you until you forget why you even thought of going in. Very bizarre experience, but perhaps she may be helpful if you are looking for something in particular and won’t waste too much of her time?

Anastasia Karsanidi ★★★★★ 2 months ago

went to this store twice over the course of roughly a month, the selection seems very interesting and extensive however the lady running the store is very rude and will nag you incessantly as you browse the store. if you do not speak dutch you can also expect a comment from her about it. she asked if there were still cd stores "where we came from" and i got racist vibes its like ehhh dont give money to that person

Niall Martin ★★★★★ 11 years ago

This is a great shop. Fantastic collection of contemporary classical and folklore cds and dvds. Owner is slightly formidable but knows her stuff. - including the birthdays of most composers - and if you buy a 'birthday' cd you will get a discount. Once she has worked out what sort of music you are interested in she will make suggestions for other records you will like. It's less a shop than an education.

Just been to this store situated in the Zeedijk neighbourhood. Unlike lots of music stores this one used the space quite well. Everything was in order and had its place. The owner Jasper friendly and approachable was centre stage . Two listening booths ready for the songs you not quite sure about. I picked some great tracks . The prices were quite reasonable your on a budget then it may not be for you. If your after hard to find Northern soul funk and beats the door is open. Worth a look if your in the neighbourhood.

Another one for my husband to tick off from his list of record store visited. This one was surprisingly big - like a maze inside and packed full of new and used vinyl. He had a whale of a time in there and actually thought it could be the best record shop he's visited so far (and that's big as, believe me, he's visited A LOT of vinyl shops around the UK, Europe and the US!!) He must've spent a good hour in here and probably could've stayed all day, but we did have other places to go!

Andy Mackenzie ★★★★★ 5 months ago

I think I've found my new favourite record shop. Concerto in Amsterdam is a rabbit warren of brilliant music. It's been here since 1955 and seems to have gradually expanded down the street, the absorbed shops give it an appealing higgledy piggledy feel. Oddly, despite the age of the building, shopping here reminded me of browsing in the late lamented Tower records in the 80s and early 90s. Back then I was often overwhelmed by the choice of music available and I had a similar feeling in concerto. I've always felt that going into a record shop in a foreign city is like being a member of a private member's club. Good ones feel like a home from home and despite language issues (not a problem at all in Holland) records make it easy to make a connection with people.

adam tachauer ★★★★★ 2 months ago

Could have spent far longer there. Asked Simon at the desk for an unseen recommendation of what he is loving listening to at the moment and the moment he seemed so excited to be asked i knew what he was going to offer was going to be rocket fuel. Didn't listen to it until i got back to London...and I loved it! Already passed on your recommendation twice. I next time I'm in town I'll be back to see you for your next suggestion. Recommended: Dijon 'Absolutely'

I was looking for Blu-Rays in a mostly records only shop and came away pleasantly surprised at the massive range of music in almost every genre and on every format. It's a bit of a walk from Amsterdam Central but given the area and the scenery it's worth the adventure and worth spending some of your money here.

I’m not even sure how to review this. They have a massive stock, looks like it’s in good condition mostly. The big downside though is that it’s really not practical at all to go through it. Most of it is in boxes and pilled over itself. The owner is very helpful though. Maybe you just have to go there with lots of time or as others have said, just check their Discogs store.

Actually 0 stars. Went to this store especially for record store day. After waiting in line I found the record I needed. My joy was short-lived because at checkout the salesperson said I can't sell this record because it's reserved for someone else. I've been buying records and cd's for 50 years but I've never experienced this. Always thought the idea of record store day was to physically go to the store.

Bought: Xbox 360 S, 4GB + controller - €75 Halo 4 + GTA IV - €27 250GB HDD "Tested" - €45 👀 The 360 was absolutely fine. Almost no dust inside the console. However the controller was DONE FOR. Previous owner sure did put hours into gaming on it (I guess they kept the console in a nice and ventilated place, otherwise there's no explanation to the console's cleanliness). Discs were fine, no scratches, everything reads perfectly. Now the problem: the HDD. It was sold as "Tested", which is, sadly, misleading. When I first plugged it into my newly bought console, it straight up errored everything. Only after I tried powering it up from my PC and using FatXplorer to check it out did it initialize in the console. Next thing. Someone else's (a Dutch family's, to be more precise) save data, profiles, Facebook data and an Xbox Live account. Naturally, everything was wiped by me (I did try to contact the owner, however the Xbox profile seems disused now). This really shocked me, as I didn't expect such level of negligence: nobody "Tested" the HDD, if there was still someone else's data on it still.

Come here every once in a while. Basically the only store I know in this part of Europe that sells Visual Kei cd’s so that’s amazing. Their prices can be a bit high for some products but on average I think the prices are fair, especially when compared to having to import a cd myself.

Update Oct 2024: They have a downstairs space open! More crates, listening stations and a funky green couch. They also were open until 7. It just keeps getting better! Always the first record store I hit up when I visit. Three listening stations, one on the lower level, two on the upper. For a small shop there is ample digging for electronic music. Great for used finds and loving the prices. You can also do Discogs pick up -- give a couple days advance notice (or more) for pick up if you're not local. I know they're busy and need a little time to pull orders. Staff is super rad. They also do luggage storage so there is traffic from that at times.

Go here if you're in need of abuse. My gosh, what miserable, unfriendly people. I went last week and received a pretty cold reception from whomever was working there. No big deal. I went back today to buy a record I found last week. I arrived 20 minutes to 6 pm. The store was closed, contrary to the website, which says 6 pm closing time. The salesperson was still inside. I waited and he eventually came to the door, opened it, and when I tried to explain that I needed 1 minute to buy a record, he barked, WE'RE CLOSED! I tried to point out that it was still 5:45, but he slammed the door in my face. Not sure which bothers me more: pissy customer service or incorrect shop hours. I made a trip for nothing. At least he got home early on a Saturday night.

I went here mostly for the k-pop stuff but there is a very large selection of genres which I really liked :] The staff were also very friendly and helpful!

Huge collection of funk, RnB/soul, latin-jazz, and hip-hop. Also the only shop I’ve been to that sells Foo Fighters and Alice in Chains. A bit overpriced but reasonable considering supply and demand (bought a foo fighters album and I’ve never seen them in any other record store so low supply and some demand.) This is in my 3 standard record stores where I go to when searching for vinyl. Number 1 even. Also the owner is really nice and helpfull. And he always plays amazing records in the store itself. Helps me find more music.

Amazing little record store. Lot's of American imports. Got myself some great soul and hardrock records. Would definitely recommend going, one of the best ones in Amsterdam!

Nice records BUT, Health and safety hazard.I stood against the wall and got shocked. It tripped the power ,was very painfull and shocking.I am very traumatised about the whole situation and it is really unsetteling to think about.I will forever remember this shop with bad memories and flashbacks.I am going to put photos on the place i leaned against.

Really great place! The records are all in great condition, and you can find some great gems in the cardboard boxes under the main stands. The new records are all with the normal prices of 25-40€ but the used ones you can get for under 10€. I got 3 45 vinyls for 5€ which is pretty neat since most prices range from 7-9€ for 1. The owner is also very friendly 😊

Great selection by the owner, and Sunday staff is super kool. Bought 4 for the price of 3, and got s total of 32 records all for under a total of 200 Euros. Will go back to dig more vinyl tomorrow and/or the day I fly to Dublin.

Essential for every music lover. ZAP Records represents the full glamorous 80s-90s vinyl addiction experience: it's feels and smells like that store you see as a reference for every member of your family. For me, it was amazing: I was missing one vinyl from David Bowie that is sold out here in Portugal and they had it there at a really fair price. Hope to see you soon; Thanks.

I visited Amsterdam all the way from Saudi Arabia and was happy to see my favorite album (After Hours) and I bought it. Imagine my shock when I found out it was counterfeit! now I’m back in Saudi and have no means to return it 😓 What a waste of 40 Euros 💔

Cozy and aesthetically pleasing vinyl store with a great range of albums distributed over two floors. They have new and old music and the condition of the products is held high. The location is also great. Definitely check it out!

Probably my favorite record store i've ever been. Wide selection of used stuff, found stuff i hadn't found anywhere else. It needs a lot of time since it also has a basement with an overwhelming amount of stuff. Staff was helpful and the music being played made for a great experience too.

Had an amazing time listening and picking from a great selection of records, the suggestions from Ilker helped me found exactly what I was looking for. A great place to explore different types of electronic music while listening to a live performance from one of his students. Definitively coming back for more!

I love this record shop/coffee spot. Small but mighty. Mostly new vinyl, well thought out selection of electronic music The owner is like one of the friendliest people on the planet. If you're wanting to learn to DJ w/vinyl, classes are offered.

Advertised specialty coffee on the sign outside but it's more a vinyl store. I came for coffee and it was disappointing served in a paper cup from a small espresso machine. The do seem to have normal ceramics but I didn't get one.

Incredible vibe that was as tangible as vinyl itself. Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. If you need to chill, have a coffee, and soak up some audio sunshine, check this place out!
